The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

How to reduce Docker image size for IoT devices
Let's use patchelf to reduce the Docker image size for Stubby — a name resolver that supports DNS-over-TLS. We will use Debian as the base image but the process is specific neither to this Linux distribution nor to this application.

Can I use PiHole with Google DNS/Cloudflare simultaneously?
U used Stubby for a while, that worked but I've since switched to Unbound.

What is better DNScrypt, DOH or DOT?
Overall, while DoT, DoH, and DNSCrypt are all far better than nothing in terms of privacy and security, I would say that DoH is probably the simplest and most effective choice for the average user, while DNSCrypt (or DoT with a flexible client like Stubby) are preferable for users who desire more robust configuration options, or have niche use cases. I tend toward DoH for devices that frequently travel with me, and DNSCrypt or DoT for devices that rarely leave my home.

How does google know where I am?
For encrypted DNS, I suggest you to install Stubby. It can be used along with a VPN. The Arch wiki is very good as well as the official website to explain how to install it. But the best tutorial is from LinuxBabe.

Quad9 move to Switzerland
You can also use any of three different encryption methods (DoT, DoH, or DNScrypt) to encrypt your query when you send it to us (look at Stubby as an example of how to do that).

Can I use PiHole with Google DNS/Cloudflare simultaneously?
I'm looking up DNS over TLS/HTTPS where this github page says they're recursive -- by any change, do they work the same as unbound or are they better/more suitable for some use cases?
What are some alternatives?
When comparing stubby and PiHole-DOT you can also consider the following projects:
AdGuardHome - Network-wide ads & trackers blocking DNS server
unbound-config - run unbound dns with grafana dashboard on raspberry pi
faf-dns-proxy - A DNS-over-TLS (DoT) Proxy, Engineered for Speed
unbound-docker - 🛡️ This distroless Unbound Docker image is based on Alpine Linux with focus on security, privacy, performance and a small image size. And with Pi-hole in mind.
