Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Managing issues with the Haskell Stack projects under NixOS

and need to change my stack to use a newer version of ghc that nixpkgs switched to like ghc8106. This is actually open as an issue in the stack project https://github.com/commercialhaskell/stack/issues/4539. However it's more than just a stack issue, even if stack were to fix this part of the problem is haskell-language-server that runs haskell-lsp keeps updating its supported ghc versions. Fixing stack but being unable to use my development environment doesn't do me much good.
I can't find a solution to this problem involving stack install

Following the hint to https://github.com/commercialhaskell/stack/issues/4510, I found https://github.com/commercialhaskell/stack/issues/4897 and "Overriding GHC boot packages results in any other GHC boot packages depending on it being no longer available as a dependency".
Help getting started

There was a proposal to introduce a brokering tool to handle this communication, but the maintainer of ghcup didn't like it very much, because this adds yet another program into the mix. They would prefer it if stack would add a hooking mechanism such that users (or ghcup automatically) can change the mechanism that stack uses for installing GHC.

HLS does not detect errors in Cabal project (but still provides suggestions)
2 projects | reddit.com/r/haskell | 26 Nov 2021
Hey! It sounds like hlint is working but not HLS, which is why you just get suggestions but not the errors. A bit similar to what I just ran into a couple of days ago. Could you check the logs from running haskell-language-server at the project's root directory, and see if it's similar with the ones I posted here?

As others have mentioned, plugins are currently compile-time add-ons for HLS, so your plugin will probably have to live in the main repo of HLS. Here are all plugins that currently have been merged into HLS: https://github.com/haskell/haskell-language-server/tree/master/plugins and the module-name-plugin seems to take care of at least one of the things you already mentioned.
Stack - dependency hell

Packages like this will often stack install more easily if you clone their source and running stack install from there. At https://github.com/haskell/haskell-language-server you can see a lot of stack.yaml files, all with huge extra-deps lists, which is a good sign this is definitely the way to go.

I have no idea why this works, but at this point, I'm just happy that hls even attached. FWIW, I think the problem has to do with stack getting ghc version wrong. This might help, idk: https://github.com/haskell/haskell-language-server/issues/1782
Implicit-hie on microsoft windows 10

New HLS versions support multiple minor versions of the 8.10 series, as you can see. So the 8.10.7 version which your stack.yaml hypothetically dictates, will continue to be supported. There would be no incompatibility between the stack.yaml and the HLS.
What are some alternatives?
Cabal - Official upstream development repository for Cabal and cabal-install
lsp-mode - Emacs client/library for the Language Server Protocol
ormolu - A formatter for Haskell source code
ghcid - Very low feature GHCi based IDE
vscode-haskell - VS Code extension for Haskell, powered by haskell-language-server
castle - A tool to manage shared cabal-install sandboxes.
lsp-haskell - lsp-mode  haskell
bisect-binary - Tool to determine relevant parts of binary data
implicit-hie - Auto generate a stack or cabal multi component hie.yaml file
bumper - Haskell tool to automatically bump package versions transitively.
profiterole - GHC prof manipulation script
extract-dependencies - Automatically finds dependencies and runs a Haskell file with stack (no cabal manifest, no stack.yaml, no project, no friction)
