It uses docker under the hood, you don’t have to work with docker locally. But your app needs to respect environment variables and have a Procfile in the root with a list of commands to run your app.

You should pay for a cheap virtual machine, you can get one on DigitalOcean for about $5. This gives you a larger storage and quite a good amount of memory for a decent performance. On that machine, you can install Docker and use that to deploy your app. It should be fairly easy to deal with.
