Started transferring files to my external hard drive and it corrupted v. anything I can do?
There are some utilities for mounting sparse disk images in user space (FUSE), but I don't have any experience with it. github: SparseBundleFS which seems to have a pretty good README which may help (depending on your familiarity with the terminal and installing stuff from homebrew ).

Sharing files between ARCH->ANDROID
I'm using android-file-transfer link
-
Phone to laptop USB cable
I installed Android for transfer from - https://whoozle.github.io/android-file-transfer-linux/ & it works! Though it's interface is old fashioned & you need to download files instead of copy, it's quite easy.

So I plugged in my 950 xl to my mac and android file transfer pops up? Huh
If Android file transfer doesn't work, try This open source version. mac os image capture should also work for photos. If not you'll have to plug into a Windows or Linux PC since Apple in its infinite wisdom decided mac os doesn't need native MTP support.

Zune audiobook help
Yes, you can try "Audible's" but I'm not sure it work for exporting from your Zune to your computer or use Android File Transfer For Linux but you will need a Linux OS (you can just boot it from a USB stick) and then extract the audiobooks to your computer (without name sadly). If this is a Zune HD you can also use Liberate on the live archive to copy them over FTP.
What are some alternatives?
