Right-aligned modeline element gets moved when using `visual-fill-column-mode`
Hey! I ran into this same problem when using simple-modeline for Emacs, and I was able to fix it by replacing the (space :align-to (- right ,r-length)) with (space :align-to (- right (- 0 right-margin) ,reserve)) in the display property.

A while ago I had the very same problem and after tried and discarded many options for being either either slow or too complicated so I ended up creating a very simple modeling package, unoriginally named https://github.com/gexplorer/simple-modeline .

Ask: What's your favorite modeline mode?
I was using mood-line (https://github.com/jessiehildebrandt/mood-line) for a while. It looks very nice, expecially if you turn off mode-line borders (depending on your theme).
