You could just use doom-modeline , it is the default Doom Emacs modeline but as a separate package. But if your willing to go more minimal, I would keep playing with the mood-line package, that's a great modeline.
I went from vanilla to Doom (with emacs key bindings). Although lots of my old config is still there: https://github.com/holgerschurig/emacs-doom-config/blob/master/config.el
There’s also mood-line which is like a slimmed down version of doom-modeline.
Another (IMO) indispensable package that Doom uses is helpful. It's what provides those amazing help buffers that show you the source code for everything and link to a search for all references, etc.
