You can use SigTop to create a backup of all message history from Signal Desktop though. There is no way to restore the messages to your android phone though.

Is there some way to create an archive of all my messages that I can view outside of Signal?
Yes. You can make a backup on android. You can probably also do so on MacOS though without having to buy an android phone. Check out SigTop. I am checking if this works for myself right now

This is how to backup/export an entire chat transcript, pics, vids, etc. from Signal, archive it outside of signal & be able to review it later on without signal needed, etc.
I wrote sigbak and sigtop to export Signal messages. I believe they are reasonably straightforward to use, and have sufficient documentation. And I, too, welcome suggestions for improvements.

If that doesn't help, it would be interesting to see if the missing messages exist in the Signal Desktop database. You could use sigtop for this. After you've built it, run this:

Restore Signal messages on iPhone with Desktop / Android?
Hey man you can make a backup of the Desktop though. For example with a tool like https://github.com/LiroyvH/signal-export So if you want to safeguard a copy sometime, then this may help. Still can’t restore it though, though you could copy the PDF’s to phone so it’s at least viewable and searchable.

Export Signal messages from iPhone?
Having said that: if you’ve always used Signal Desktop in conjunction with Signal iOS, then you can leverage that to create HTML/CSV and/or PDF backups for as long as the Signal devs don’t screw us over and make that impossible as well. Such a tool can for example be found here for Linux/MacOS: https://github.com/LiroyvH/signal-export

Desktop client: backup of messages + media?
You can try https://github.com/liroyvh/signal-export instead of the sigtop one isn’t working. This worked for me on my Mac. Linux is supported too.
