Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Yocto layer handling via Git
You can also use KAS for versioning (https://github.com/siemens/kas). It's a pretty neat solution, that also provides a docker-build container. The basic principle is that you store your layers with commit hashes and local.conf files in a single .yaml format

I often work with the Yocto Project to build custom Linux distributions for a various range of products. One of the main struggles you can have while working with this tool is managing multiple git repositories in order to produce a successful build.
