I don't want to host services (but I do)
>, and you're done.
When I researched Nextcloud in the past, I avoided it because of warnings like the ones in this thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25481465
Ctrl+F search that thread for "failure".
If Nextcloud has solved whatever issues were happening in 2020, it still doesn't necessarily instill confidence because one can remain skeptical and assume there are new issues still happening in 2023. E.g. https://github.com/nextcloud/server/issues
It's going to take time to wade through all those issues to determine if there are any showstoppers that would affect one's installation. This doesn't look like a low-maintenance solution.

PHP-FPM 8.2 on OpenBSD 7.3
The PHP core package is offered as pre-compiled binary via Ports packages system. In addition, important softwares such as extensions, Composer and PECL libraries are available. So are frameworks such as NextCloud and Zabbix.

What's your web browser based access to file system?
I am not interested in complex cloud hosting systems like https://www.seafile.com/en/home/, https://nextcloud.com/, https://owncloud.com/. I run some cloud software (forgot the name) in the past and it was very inefficient at synchronizing, Seafile was great with synchronization, but recovery was painful.

Is data privacy something you all pay attention to? Is it important & in what ways?
As mentioned, I do not use closed-source services either. So, I do not use services by big tech companies. People use gmail, google drive, google search, WhatsApp, Zoom, Netflix, Spotify, Microsoft Office, photoshop etc. All these services collect and sell your data. I use ProtonMail, Nextcloud, Matrix, Jitsi, Jellyfin, LibreOffice, GIMP etc. Most of these sre self-hosted, that is, they are hosted on my home server, so most data does not even leave my own ecosystem that I have created. I own my data.

Most used selfhosted services in 2022?
LibrePhotos - Man, I *so* want a google photos replacement that gives me control over how my photos are organized. Photoprism and LibrePhotos are both almost there. Of the two, I chose LibrePhotos mainly because I like how the project is run, and because it doesn't rely on making humongous thumbnails of all your media (so therefore uses about 1/4 the space in its database).

OpenMediaVault - openmediavault is the next generation network attached storage (NAS) solution based on Debian Linux. It contains services like SSH, (S)FTP, SMB/CIFS, DAAP media server, RSync, BitTorrent client and many more. Thanks to the modular design of the framework it can be enhanced via plugins. OpenMediaVault is primarily designed to be used in home environments or small home offices, but is not limited to those scenarios. It is a simple and easy to use out-of-the-box solution that will allow everyone to install and administrate a Network Attached Storage without deeper knowledge.
