Supabase auth vs next auth
Next Auth can use a relational db as backend to store user and session info. Supabase provider is just that, not using supabase auth. I haven't tried supabase auth since I wanted more control and ability to switch vendors easily. But I used db backed next auth with supabase and prisma and it went rather smoothly.
