  • Need help with converting C++ to C#

    I'm converting rlImGui from C++ to C# so I can use it with ImGui.NET and Raylib-cs but I'm getting stuck at a couple places. I don't know how to convert line 331 to C# since in ImGui.NET cmd.UserCallback is an IntPtr and not something I can call. I did a quick google search and you can use the Marshal library to convert it to a callable delegate but I think you need to also have the delegate known to do that. There's also line 82 but that is specific to Raylib. The function it calls does not seem to be included in Raylib-cs. Also, rlImGui keeps using a Texture type but that is not defined in Raylib-cs or ImGui.NET. I assume I can substitute it with Texture2D from Raylib-cs but I'm not to the point in porting to see if Texture2D has the necessary fields/properties/methods.

    raylib extra libraries cleanup: raylib has been on diet and all the extra libraries included on previous releases have been removed from raylib. Now raylib only includes the original 7 raylib modules: rcore, rlgl, rshapes, rtextures, rtext, rmodels and raudio. But no worries, extra libraries have not been deleted, they have been moved to their own repos for better maintainability and more focus on its functionality. The libraries moved out from raylib repo are: raygui, physac, rmem, reasings and raudio (standalone mode). On that same line, a new amazing GitHub group: raylib-extras has been created by @JeffM2501 to contain raylib extra libraries as well as other raylib add-ons provided by the community. Jeff has done an amazing work on that line, providing multiple libraries and examples for raylib, like custom first-person and third person camera systems, Dear ImGui raylib integration, multiple specific examples and even a complete RPG Game Example! Great work Jeff! :D

    I like to pin GitHub dependencies using a commit hash, instead of a tag. You need a recent CPM.cmake file in your project for CPM to work.

    C++20 brings std::format, improving C++ developer experience for formatting strings. If you have to use older standards, though, add fmtlib to your repo. It plays well with CMake and you can use CPM to add fmtlib to your project. The library supports many Rust format macro features, and makes code far cleaner when you need to do string interpolation with variables.

    Yes, i found vcpkg terrible and FetchContent usually works way better. An amazing project is https://github.com/cpm-cmake/CPM.cmake, which automates FetchContent and makes dependencies mostly hassle free.

    There's two completely different aspects to your question. 1) How to manage libraries in c++ without dying from cringe?     I personally like to use something called CPMCmake for smaller personal projects, just because it has 0 requirements on the person that wants to use your project, they don't have to setup anything on their end, the only requirement is to have Cmake.

    I personally would thoroughly recommend CPM. It's a CMake plugin which you install as a script in your CMake project and you can then use its function CPMFindPackage(), which basically wraps find_package() and ExternalProject() to use the former if the package is installed on the machine, or downloads it and builds it in-tree using the latter if not.

    At first, I wanted to install it using Vcpkg but I ended up using CPM.cmake instead. Why? Because with Vcpkg on some platform it is messing up the config and choose a version of Python used in Vcpkg instead of the one I wanted to use. It is not that hard to fix, but why bother when I can install the library in one line with CPM.cmake

    We're using vcpkg - tried conan previously. I think both are good, but both of them have their own flaws. You can also go with something like https://github.com/cpm-cmake/CPM.cmake if you just want something quick for a small project.
