Yes, Kubernetes is an excellent platform for that. But you'll still need some application running on top to help your fellow datascientists use the resources in an easy way (you'd have a hard time convincing them to write Kubernetes manifests for their jobs etc), for that take a look at this OSS project: https://github.com/SwissDataScienceCenter/renku.
