Question: Running a script periodically to change screensaver?
Some projects such as this one did update the sleeping screen periodically. I also use a similar mechanism for my TODO list to automatically appear on the sleeping screen. However to work you will need to install ddvk hacks as the remarkable now requires a restart to change the sleeping screen. You may not want to use the hacks and be aware that v 2.9 is not yet supported by the hacks.

Read newspaper on remarkable?
Check out the Evidlo/remarkable_news project. It's a program that gets installed to your tablet to pull articles in directly via WiFi, so it doesn't require any cloud communication.

I made a 32“ eInk newspaper
For those who own a reMarkable tablet, you can get a similar effect on your suspend screen by running remarkable-news[0]. When suspended power consumption is very low (idle) and the screen is not powered, making it ideal for static content.

Notes on My Remarkable Tablet
3.x support will come to toltec, I've been blocked by stuff outside of my control a couple of times. Including things happening in my life that I won't get into.
You can see the current progress here: https://github.com/toltec-dev/toltec/issues/820
As for the comment on the kernel change, that was actually an ask by someone in the community: https://github.com/reMarkable/linux/issues/8

Remarkable 1 purchase
Do you ever plan to put your own tools and stuff on it? If so I would reccomened staying on 2.15 so you can use https://toltec-dev.org/. Also newest version 3 software forces infinite scroll and a lot of people absolutely hate it. I happily stay on 2.10. You can change versions as well, unofficially. Not sure if using the cloud still works with that, lots of us have cut that out entirely.

Neofetch, for ReMarkable
