[General Discussion] Around the Horn - 6/11/23
I’ve never heard of Lemmy but I saw a post about a game thread bot. I assume that was you posting since it appeared to be a mod. The post mentioned not finding the source for the bots running today. You can find the bot platform and bots I’ve written for all 4 major sports at https://github.com/toddrob99/redball and baseballbot is in the repositories at https://github.com/fustrate.

Way to get probable lineups for a game?
For my game thread bots (e.g. /u/PhilsBot) my code that displays lineups is here, with data collected here.

Game Thread: Mariners @ Braves - Sun, May 21 @ 01:35 PM EDT
Bot source code, which is part of a bot management platform.

Game Thread - Guardians @ Royals July 09 2022
Anyhow I've actually been using this repo for the past two seasons: https://github.com/toddrob99/redball

GAME THREAD: Nationals @ Mets - Tue, May 31 @ 07:10 PM EDT
There is no cost to the sub. I'm running the bot at my house along with the r/phillies and r/braves bots (and eagles, flyers, sixers). I developed the bot as well, and since you brought it up, there's a sponsor button on the repo if you are so inclined. (Feels weird even posting that so I'll probably come back and edit later to remove the last bit.)

Projected Lineup vs. Projected Starter
I use a mako template to generate the lineups for my pre-game threads, and it pulls a lot of data other than the response from that API call, but here it is. In that template, data[gamePk]['homeBattersVsProb'] and data[gamePk]['awayBattersVsProb'] are the responses from those API calls (one for each team).

[Mod Post] We would like to welcome /u/toddrob to the mod team
If you're a geek like me and want to know more about how the bots are developed and hosted, you can find the code for my redball bot management platform on github including some outdated screenshots. I run redball in Docker on a Synology NAS at my house, which means it might be down from time to time if my power or internet goes out. That doesn't happen very often, but it has happened before and I'm sure it will again happen at some point.

How do you get a gold medal in level 54 of red ball 4
I don’t think this sub is about what you think it’s about. https://github.com/toddrob99/redball

RedBall deal fell through, Beane not leaving
Yeah, I just bought RBAC last week so that’s surely why there’s bad news now. Coincidentally my bot management platform (used to run game thread bots for several teams’ subs but not the A’s) is also called redball, so I felt like I had to invest.

Making bump reminder bot
Hikari | Docs | The only one that's not a fork. I find the docs miserable and they have a far fewer users than the others, so your only luck of finding help is in their support server.

I'm making a help command with hikari-tanjun, but it keeps returning "Application did not respond"
I've been working on a help command for my Discord music bot which uses hikari and hikari-tanjun and it's been going fine so far but I added this part to my code and whenever you do /help , it's supposed to show help for that specific command, but it only responds with "Application did not respond" when I try it. I've tried removing the obj argument and removing the parentheses but it just keeps saying "Application did not respond" and I don't know what to do or how to fix it and there is no error. No one in the Hikari server helped when I asked multiple times, so can someone help?

Hikari or discord.py?
Getting started is easy: check the [docs](https://hikari-py.dev/hikari), join the [server](https://discord.gg/hikari), and take a look at the [examples](https://github.com/hikari-py/hikari/blob/master/examples/).
-
Disnake or Pycord
I recommend try out Hikari (The Library) + Lightbulb (Command Handler Extension)
-
For discord.py users, what library are you going switch?
I have switched to Hikari + Lightbulb and I'm not looking back.
-
discord.py bots
Pycord is a bad fork in my opinion. I recommend using discord.py until it's entirely dead and then switching to enhanced-discord.py (Or switching to it right now). You can get slash commands with discord.py using slash_util. You can also switch to a completely different Python Discord API wrapper, like hikari.

Best discord.py alternative?
Could try Hikari: https://github.com/hikari-py/hikari it exists for a while already and is not just a fork of discord.py
-
D.py alternatives?
Hikari is an alternative library as a whole, entirely uninvolved with the development of D.py. Moving to this would require at least a little structure rewriting.
What are some alternatives?
unicorn-binance-trailing-stop-loss - A Python library by LUCIT with a command line interface for a trailing stop loss and smart entry on the Binance exchange.
discord.py - An API wrapper for Discord written in Python.
gifCutterBot - Reddit /u/gifcutterbot that creates shortened GIFs or videos from your favorite scenes!
pycord - Pycord, a maintained fork of discord.py, is a python wrapper for the Discord API
Baseball-GDT-Bot - A Reddit bot that will generate, post, and keep baseball game discussion threads updated with live stats and scores.
VALORANT-rank-yoinker - A Python app which retrieves the VALORANT rank and players' equipped skins during a match
TwitchIO - An Async Bot/API wrapper for Twitch made in Python.
nextcord - A Python wrapper for the Discord API forked from discord.py
sportslist - Python3 script to retrieve and display today's baseball and/or hockey games
disnake - An API wrapper for Discord written in Python.
hikari-lightbulb - The official unofficial command handler for the Python discord API wrapper library, Hikari.
discord-interactions - An attempt to implement discord interactions in an actually usable way
