I have found the performance tests very tricky to get to pass without having any input from others. The assignment is really very unforgiving, I would wager the test suite is comparable to how commercial Raft implementations are tested (e.g. https://github.com/hashicorp/raft)

In my implementation, in each AppendEntries request, the leader includes X commits starting from nextIndex. The follower either accepts all X commits, or reject all of them. If the follower accepted all commits, the leader moves nextIndex to (X + nextIndex when the request was sent).
