Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Programs similar to Soulseek for other than music ?
If you use qBittorrent, it has a search feature. You add search plug-ins, which are just tiny python scripts that describe how to do a web request. GitHub has a significant list (official, un-official) of these plugins, for linux distros, academic, games, video, audio, hentai, or whatever you are into. Its a somewhat simple search, you can say Seed>1, Size=2gb-4gb, etc. Importantly it removes the need to manually visit the torrent sites to search. It can support public and private trackers. There is a tutorial available.

Updated to V4.6.2 and now the search doesn't work
Or for some people ending up here, it could be this: https://github.com/qbittorrent/search-plugins/issues/263 where the poster suggests it's a Python version issue.

Jackett plugin
The Jackett plugin is not working with qBittorrent 4.6; it says it couldn't install the search plugin because it is not supported. https://github.com/qbittorrent/search-plugins/wiki/How-to-configure-Jackett-plugin Can someone fix it for the new version? I wrote to Github, but there is no answer there.

And it's what I use to search for torrents.
I would never trust a site without an adblocker and keep uBlock active in Private Mode.
But with all this, you need to know what you're searching for, browsing for content is another story

FYI you can still download RARBG encoded media with qBittorrent's search engine feature
