Like Google home, you will connect your equipment to home assistant. A lot of people install it on a raspberry pi (due to his low power consumption and low price) but can be installed on any computer. You will find a lot of informations on their website but if you have more questions, feel free to ask https://www.home-assistant.io/

It wasn't until I recently set up Home Assistant with some various sensors and a z-wave thermostat that I finally had use for node-red. (You can even install node-red as an "add-on" to home assistant that automatically sets up integrations and useful extensions)
What are some alternatives?
Node RED - Low-code programming for event-driven applications

homebridge - HomeKit support for the impatient
Leon - 🧠 Leon is your open-source personal assistant.
