proton-ge-custom-updater VS dayz-linux-cli-launcher

There's a lot of solutions to the proton update problem, and all seem good! Here is yet another proton updater, but in POSIX-compliant shell Proton GE Custom Updater

I was able to run DayZ quite some time ago on Linux without Steam Beta. I don't know where you saw that you needed Steam Beta but that's definitely not the case ahah. I'm afraid I cannot help you with your Steam Beta issue, but as for DayZ I used this tool to join modded servers. If you don't like CLI tools there is also this one which uses a GUI but I have never tested it.

There are a few launcher alternatives that performs the mod configurations (like this or this for example), I tried the DTZUI, a little bit of work because you need to mark each Mod to download individually on Steam Community (DTZUI gives you the list of mods needed by the server and the link to download each one).
