  • Is Prometheus the right tool for my use case here?

There's client libraries in most languages that make this possible and are reasonably straight forward. If you're using a particular framework it's quite possible there's a prometheus instrumentor for that framework, e.g fastapi has the prometheus-fastapi-instrumentor. There's also open source frameworks that can help you do this in a variety of languages, my personal favourite is autometrics.

I also configured telegram notifications for failures (telegram lets you set a custom sound) and Prometheus exporter to see if backups are happening at a glance.
  • Storj hidden pricing?

I saw that Storj had S3 compatibility, so I tested it using a small server running restic to backup to two buckets a couple of folders. It worked flawlessly. Upload speeds were even better than B2. I also wanted to tests a grafana dashboard for restic, so I am running an ngosang/restic-exporter docker image that checks out small file about the repo and parses it. Though this adds bandwidth it seams neglectable.
