There is a TLS patcher for 7 but please for the love of god move on from 7. It's ok to use it for emulation and offline but I wouldn't touch it for any online activity. https://github.com/TheLevelUp/pos-tls-patcher

Rate my setup/suggestions?
I recommend modding the 3DS. Only because it adds so much features that the 3DS doesn't have now. On top of that, backing up the ROMs for your cartridges is great for long trips where you really don't want to bring every game you own, or just when you can't be bothered.
