ThemeChanger, a theme changing utility for Linux
I've tried that and QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=kvantum without any luck. I don't actually use any other QT5 program than polkit-dumb-agent, which has annoyingly bright theme if I don't set anything reasonable with qt5ct. GTK seems to work perfectly though.

ThemeChanger, a theme changing utility for Linux
This situation isn't so much about the fact that Flatpak and Flathub are GNOME-backed. All of the KDE core apps are in there too, and so are all of the Pantheon core apps. But none of the other GTK environments have bought into Flatpak and/or Flathub. I asked the xapps (MATE core apps) people about it and their response was kinda wishy-washy. They might be more receptive if Flathub submissions for Pluma, Atril, etc, get made for them. I don't know if XFCE people would want to get Mousepad, Ristretto, etc onto Flathub.

Unity is still miles better then Gnome
The Linux Mint project is sponsoring a series of "traditional" Gtk desktop accessory apps: text editor, image viewer etc. It calls them the XApps. The idea is that instead of MATE, Cinnamon and Xfce all maintaining their own forks of the GNOME 2 accessories, there is one shared set. I tried the Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix and to my very great surprise, it doesn't use them; it just uses the GNOME versions, with CSD, no menu bars, etc.
