I tried a similar thing on my server when I just started, now I'm running Ubuntu server and most of my services runs in docker containers, portainer has a GUI that's makes it easy to manage the containers. So my advice just run a Ubuntu server without desktop environment and portainer novaspirit has a great tutorial for beginners

novaspirit tech originally created a docker container template to be hosted on arm boards, they now have moved to also include amd64 boards. template linked here

When you deploy a Docker in Portainer, the docker-compose already includes a port it will expose. You can also change the port in Portainer to avoid duplicity.
