So many GTK Desktop Environments, yet so little Qt ones
That's a stretch. One former LXDE contributor, LStranger, wanted to continue the GTK version. The entire remaining developer team (including the LXDE founder PCMan) was like "whatever floats your boat, man" and decided to split up the projects in a friendly manner. But let's be honest here: Barely anything happens at LXDE any longer. Just look at the core component, PCManFM that is both the file manager and the desktop shell: https://github.com/lxde/pcmanfm/commits/master
