pbi-tools VS TabularEditor

My team just implemented CI/CD with PBI Tools. It works, but I found it difficult to get set up. We've opted to use it for data sets only and not reports. The amount of changes logged for review with reports can make it difficult to spot potential problems.

OP, please consider using pbi-tools (https://github.com/pbi-tools/pbi-tools) as a temporary solution to the aspect of breaking down the PBIX into separate files that can be versioned, understood etc.

I have had decent results using git branching/merging along with pbi-tools https://github.com/pbi-tools/pbi-tools

If you want to try it out, the easiest option is to get Tabular Editor 2: https://github.com/TabularEditor/TabularEditor/releases/tag/2.18.1

You can define object-level security (OLS) to secure columns or tables in a similar manner to RLS. This will require using Tabular Editor (also [available as Tabular Editor 3, a commercially supported product) or some other external tool, as PBID does not yet support editing OLS.

If you actually have 300+ measures in your model, you should really try using Tabular Editor to replace some of those measures with a Calculation Group.

Look into using Perspectives to handle different views of the same single Golden dataset for different departments. You'll need to use Tabular Editor to create them, but you need to use it for so many other things too like applying best practices.

Use Power BI Premium Per User if you can afford. This allows you to use the Tabular Editor tool . There some posts from Reddit users who aggressively support this approach for GIT controlling the "Dataset only PBIX". You work with the underlying model file directly.
