Ubuntu 22.04 unable to select AP with best signal using networkmanager/wpa_supplicant
Unfortunately, MediaTek wireless isn't very good on Linux and if it's at all possible, I would replace it with an Intel wireless card. As for alternate drivers; the only one I could find (that isn't just a backport of the in-kernel one) is this, but it makes no mentions of additional features, let alone better roaming support; so I'd pass.

debian bookworm - wireless bridge using ebtables or something else?
In retrospect the cold reset error could very well have been my trouble within OpenWrt as well as they have firmware and driver packages for MT7922 in their github. Their package manager opkg has drivers called MT7921e that is needed, easily installed through the web gui. OpenWrt Firmware patches for MT7922 You need to wget the MT7922 firmware patches and put them in /lib/firmware/mediatek/ https://github.com/openwrt/mt76/blob/master/firmware /WIFI_MT7922_patch_mcu_1_1_hdr.bin /WIFI_RAM_CODE_MT7922_1.bin

DFS does not work on the mt7612u adapters, but you can use this patch (I haven't tested it myself yet): https://github.com/openwrt/mt76/pull/428
- Is there a way to make this wifi dongle not boot into "CD-ROM" mode when first connected? (more in comments)

Need some advice troubleshooting the wifi driver (PCI: 8086:24F3 Intel Corporation Wireless 8260)
Yeah, the synaptic package is installed [synaptic-iwl.png](https://postimg.cc/8jSZnkVP). I do not know how it can causes so many issues; it's not only me: this guy is running ubuntu 21.04 (5.12.10) and he has the same problem. I think I a going to post this on r/linux and r/thinkpad seeing this is a relatively common problem-.
