Nvtop: Linux Task Monitor for Nvidia, AMD and Intel GPUs
That's why the authors recommend pipx for installing nvitop. I am not a sysadmin, but I prefer pipx over relying on the (often outdated) distro sources.

Why does stable diffusion hold onto my vram even when it’s doing nothing. It works great for a few images and then it racks up so much vram usage it just won’t do anything anymore and errors out. Is there a way to free up VRAM every so often? RX 6700XT 12GB VRAM
Hey, thanks for that. I think I found what you mentioned: https://github.com/XuehaiPan/nvitop

After dreaming of Al Gore's setup for 15 years, finally I got this:
Don't do this on my behalf but if you're ever curious yourself, on some other date, you can use iStat Menu among other utilities or readers to check GPU utilization, thats a lot easier to read than Activity Monitor. If using iStat, go to iStat Menus, click on the CPU/GPU dropdown, then the GPU in the active items bar, and select processor. You'll see a graph and you can just let that sit for a few minutes and average it by eye. I'm on a 4K display and it seems to be averaging about 10% GPU utilization.
