You might want to run this script right after unplugging your laptop so nothing uses your dGPU and your battery life will doubled or tripled depending on what you are working on.

nvidia-optimus-kill by GitHub user eduojeda: Finds processes that are currently utilizing the dGPU and restarts them. Useful after you unplug an external monitor from your laptop and there are still processes running on your GPU. Actually works in my experience

Is this with the battery saving tips? there are a lot of factors than can affect power draw, at the very first try disabling apps running on dgpu. https://github.com/eduojeda/nvidia-optimus-kill

Sometimes, certain application uses dGPU so MUX Switch/Nvidia has problem switching. By resetting the graphic card [WIN+Ctrl+Shift+B] or using nvidia-optimus-kill [https://github.com/eduojeda/nvidia-optimus-kill], you'll be able to close the applications using dGPU and make sure it properly switches. I use this, but it doesn't always switch as intended.

Then in Nvidia Control Panel, click Desktop > Display GPU activity in the notification area . This adds a small icon in the bottom right of the desktop. If anything appears in the icon's list, the Nvidia GPU won't be able to sleep. Follow these instructions to get those apps running on the AMD GPU. You could also try Optimus Kill, though I've had mixed success with it.

I have this PowerShell script pinned to my taskbar and have found it to be pretty handy for killing processes on the dGPU after disconnecting from an external monitor.

I had more problems with it being wide, merging all app windows in a single icon, showing only icon rather then app title, and not being able to move to top of screen

That may be fixed with https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher which restores win10 bar, there's no builtin solution to any of the above afaik

Not going to install something that seems so vague, but I do use ExplorerPatcher [1] on my Windows 11 machines to basically re-create Windows 10 UI and fix all of the annoyances I have with Windows 11. I've got the old right click menu, the old task bar, the old alt-tab interface, pretty much the whole thing. Only reason I use Windows 11 over Windows 10 is because Windows 11 seems to handle my triple monitor setup better, especially when waking up from sleep.
