Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Saving the World with Bayesian Modeling
Perhaps an alternative to look into: Numpyro [1] has a JAX backend so can be really fast when compiled; and it can run on GPUs. So that might be helpful for your problem with loads of data.

That course/book has been translated to Python (using PyMC3 for the modeling, but you could also use the Stan examples and run them from Python using CmdStanPy).
