As for getting lost, you may want to check out a mapping overlay like nparse https://github.com/nomns/nparse/wiki/Installation-and-Usage . it will draw a map of your zone and every time you run the ‘/loc’ macro it will update your position on the map. It does this just by reading the log file, so its not against the rules.
