nixml VS asdf-java

Machine learning people usually use anaconda which is all sorts of mess... But honestly yeah, I think it's worthwhile to invest learning nix for simply guaranteeing your environment still works for years to come and isn't affected by side-effects (some package outside of your environment description actually is causing the thing to work, or some thing outside the environment is making the thing not work).

asdf-java to be precise.

So is asdf good then? I have been using SDKMAN! to install JDKs, but i noticed that Gradle will automatically detect JDKs installed using SDKMAN!, asdf, and Jabba [1], which signals to me that the other two are worth a look. Although now i dig into it, asdf does not have a first-party Java plugin, so the support is through a third-party plugin maintained by three people and a robot [2].
