On June 12th, 2023, /r/DetroitRedWings will go dark to protest the changes being made to Reddit's API calls
The NHL has an API also for example. So an example of how you could use that is this project https://github.com/riffnshred/nhl-led-scoreboard. I have this scoreboard running in my living room. The computer powering the scoreboard is constantly asking the NHL API "hey what's the score of the wings game" and "who scored" and a bunch of other things. The NHL API returns that data to my computer and then my computer renders that information in a scoreboard.

Gifting a PI powered project, what's the easiest way for the recipient to change the WIFI settings?
I used the NHL Scoreboard Library with an adafruit RGB shield connect to the GPIO pins. The NHL library uses the API directly from the NHL app so the scores are basically updated instantly. Everything was built on an existing MLB library designed to do the same thing. The library supports the 32x64 matrix out of the box so there’s nothing fancy I had to do there.

For fun, what is the most fun, basically useless, home automation thing you have set up?
So I actually have one of these: https://github.com/riffnshred/nhl-led-scoreboard, and I just added my own script for when a goal is scored.

Well it's been sitting on my desk for years now
Live scoreboard showing NHL scores.

I custom built an F1 results board to display 2021 season data!
For those interested in MLB or NHL versions of something similar, it's not too difficult with a bit of Linux knowledge. I used the hardware the MLB version suggested and loaded both MLB and NHL software on my Pi to switch between the two. There are apparently Premier League, NBA and NFL versions as well though I've not yet tried either (I'll be trying NFL and Premier League in a few months though).
-
My dad and I built a frame for the scoreboard we programmed! It cycles through the entire MLB and shows all the games scores. It updates in real time too.

FYI: NHL Immaculate Grid is out!
FYI Nhl.com does have an unofficial api. I'm not sure it'd have everything you need since I mostly use it for live game stats, but at the very least there's a "people" endpoint and a records.nhl.com endpoint that includes milestones.

Who generates the “advanced stats”?
usually if you look at the game log on the NHL site, all the information is there. you can query it all through their API https://gitlab.com/dword4/nhlapi

Public NHL Player + Puck Tracking data?

Any nhl data sources that we can query?
If you know how to code, the NHL has an API which is publicly accessible (though AFAIK its access is not supported, so there are 0 guarantees that it stays up or that you won't get locked out, etc.) It's well documented by some developers: https://gitlab.com/dword4/nhlapi

Game Thread: New York Rangers (33-15-9) at Detroit Red Wings (27-21-8) - 23 Feb 2023 - 07:00PM EST
University is currently on break, so I finally spent some time with the NHL's API. I decided to create a Shot Map for the Wings' last game against the Capitals. This is the Result. What do you guys think? I never worked with this library (or much python in general) before, so I'm very open to any feedback/ideas/criticism (especially with the viz as I have no idea what I'm doing). I made this with matplotlib in python and this documentation. I'll probably start working on my own xGoals model soon, which I'm super excited to get into. In general, this data analysis/visualization topic is something I have never done before this (I do fullstack development at my undergrad job) and I'm having a blast.

Do the Kraken play better in front of Jones vs Grubauer?
With all the talk around Grubauer and Jones and how the team is playing better in front of Jones. I wanted to see if there was any stats that could support this. I have also been wanting to play around with the NHL stat api (https://statsapi.web.nhl.com/api/v1). An UNofficial swagger file can be found here.

đź‘‚Product Feedback [Weekly Thread] - For any suggestions or feedback for Yahoo Fantasy
If you just ctrl+f "powerplay" (quotations included) in the public documentation. This is actually something I've thought about, making an oldschool scoreboard LED matrix that shows when my players are on the powerplay lol

Learn Python with Hockey Tutorial - Parts 1-3
I don't know if you utilize it in your guides or personal work, but I want to give a shoutout to the documentation for the NHL Stats API. Excellent free resource for anybody out there looking to build a nice stats related app pulling real data. I use it to make my own fantasy hockey projections for my keeper league.
