BBC Basic returns on multiple platforms, open sourced
One of the books was an entire annotated disassembly of the BASIC interpreter, if memory serves. I vaguely remember there being some sort of kerfuffle about that.
Another thing that one got: a printed circuit diagram of the machine.

Documented source code for Elite on the NES
Alas, the NTSC version doesn't actually work on NTSC consoles. The NMI timings have been changed to work with some (but not all) emulators in NTSC mode, but it isn't a full NTSC conversion, it's an NTSC emulation (at least, that's what the authors call it in that version's scroll text).

Elite: "The game that couldn't be written" [video]
There was a "remake" in C of Elite called Elite: The New Kind. The source is on github (https://github.com/fesh0r/newkind). There is a funny, albeit showstopper bug: if you try to look at a sun, it will try to explode, but it can't so the game crashes.
