My friends are attending a game that I need to dvr/record for them. What should I get to make sure I don’t mess this up for them?
If you subscribe to MLB.TV, there are command line tools like mlbv that will let you sign in and download the game as a video file. You can do it anytime with the archive game for the rest of the season, so you don’t have to worry about recording it live. https://github.com/kmac/mlbv

Mets PREGAME THREAD - Wednesday, August 11
Guys, my weird linux mlb.tv setup that lets me watch (my legal paid subscription) in whatever media player I want (I use mpv) isn't working today because of the weird resumed game thing. Now I have to watch on the mlb website and it's fucking awful.

What's the point of being able to disable spoilers if the games all have cover art of the winning team celebrating?
Usually I'd recommend Kodi but that's obviously not an option on Roku. If you really want to watch on Roku but avoid the MLB app right now, you could run a Python program like mlbv to download the game to a network share or stream it to a port: https://github.com/kmac/mlbv/issues/22#issuecomment-425649277

Trouble accessing archived games from 2018 (or before).
There's a Python program called mlbv that should allow you to log in and access older games: https://github.com/kmac/mlbv

Posting to complain that I cannot even skip the annoying and fake Flashback ads. What a complete scam of a service. I read the homepage info again and it did not say anything about advertisements being unskipable. The service gets worse each season.
Or a tool like mlbv which lets you download archive games, so you can watch them in any media player on your network: https://github.com/kmac/mlbv

MLB.tv inbetween innings
Also, if you are on a PC, you could install Kodi and the unofficial MLB.TV addon to get the ad-free streams that way. There are also utilities like mlbv (https://github.com/kmac/mlbv) which can download games to a file and/or play them through VLC.
