Mirroring screen to Chromecast with sound
Wow... I haven't used a ChromeCast in about 6 years. Ok, have you installed MKChromecast? Last Time I used a ChromeCast I was on Ubuntu, and followed instructions here however I see on MKChromecast page they have an instructional video if you hit the cast button and goto bottom of page.

how to cast screen to lg tv via WiFi without needing Chrome on Linux Fedora?
You can use VLC with the chromecast renderer (playback -> renderer) for that, I've also used https://github.com/muammar/mkchromecast in the past.

Stream from Ubuntu to Chromecast or Miracast
I need to stream a captured video input from my Ubuntu Kinetic to a smart TV or iPad sink via Chromecast/Miracast or whatever. Can this be done without VLC (not reliable)? Mkchromecast is not working in Kinetic yet, and GNOME Network Displays only casts physical monitors.

What would be the best way to fill a tiny house with excellent audio?
Video games won't work with >1 sec. delay, and it seems to be an issue with mkchromecast per https://github.com/muammar/mkchromecast/issues/61 .

What kind of applications are missing from the Linux ecosystem?
Novelwriter almost hits the sweet spot, but misses some features and is written in python, which makes some features hard to implement due to the nature of the programming language.

Looking for a 'Scrivener Light'
Alternatively, if you want Scrivener-like and are happy with open source projects, novelWriter scratches some of the same itch and is (a) free and (b) available on Linux, Windows, and macOS: it has a similar project-oriented interface to Scrivener, can export projects in HTML, Open Document, Markdown, Plain Text, or PDF, supports tagging and metadata, and uses Markdown for authoring. It's much less hot on importing foreign files (it's really an authoring tool) but is implemented in Python, uses XML/Json for internal files/metadata/configuration, and in use feels like an early version of Scrivener 1.x (which is really what your students want, but Lit'n'Latte discontinued it about a decade ago and you can no longer buy it).
