Are CurseForge and Modrinth the best places to get mods? Are there any other sites I should be using?
There are a couple of sites hosting mods without authors permissions etc, sometimes claiming to have mods that don't even exist. Make sure to avoid all sites listed here: https://stopmodreposts.org/

Has anything ever been done about mod repost websites?
Im aware of this site (https://stopmodreposts.org/) but I was wondering if any sites in the past had actually been taken down/removed, or removed specific mods upon authors requests.

Questions About Mods

Where do I find individual mods these days?
Fighting them is kind of pointless since the owner is often in a country that doesn't care about copyright, and if they get removed from Google they'll just spin up a new site within a few hours. The best way to fight them is by teaching new members of the community to avoid them. https://stopmodreposts.org/

didnt think selling mods was allowed? get that money but u can do a patreaon or donations
Yeah... stay away from whatever website that is. You should generally only get your mods from CurseForge or Modrinth. The overwhelming vast majority of other sites are illegal reposts (https://stopmodreposts.org/).
