Our Super-Secret Plan to Bring the Internet Back (Part 1)
I've originally started developing Mikoto as a Discord extension, but pivoted when I realized that it was against their TOS + there's only much you can do if you only have a partial control over the stack.
We're open source, at https://github.com/mikotoIO/mikoto. We also will have a very comprehensive extension API, powered through iframes + wasm "containers". We also focus our features on superusers, and will eventually seek monetization through selling integration and enterprise hosting.

Dislike Discord changes? Support Open Source
Mikoto doesn't look like it's very active based on the commit history. Their beta instance is no longer online. It looks like someone had an idea but not enough time to execute--their website is basically the modern equivalent of a geocities "UNDER CONSTRUCTION".

Revolt! Discord alternative. (Open Source)
We don't have decentralization fully mapped out yet, but the plan is to let people plug in their own identity providers, discovery/recommendation systems, and more. So Spaces (Mikoto equivalent of Discord "Servers") will not be mirrored into other nodes, but other nodes can link into them, and your account is provided by your authentication node (either by mikoto.io, third party provider or a homeserver) - you're just logging into another node with your main node as the SSO server.

New plans for self-hosted Zulip customers
It's funny because recently there was some drama around Rocket Chat with release 6.5.0. They introduced a new "free" tier in addition to the "community" version where the latter introduced a user limit of 25. During the upgrade to 6.5.0 existing Rocket installations also were switched to the new "free" tier and thus got the new user limit. It was possible to uncheck some boxes to get back to "community" but it caused a lot of confusion among Rocket users/admins.

Rocket.Chat is an alternative to discord for companies and teams.

Self hosting Rocket.chat
I'm considering switching from Matrix / Element to rocket.chat for a small instance (< 10 people) I host for my friends. However there is something during the setup process that gives me pause:

Answer honestly: How many of you are gradually moving away from Discord to alternatives and how are you handling it?
Depends on what do you exactly mean, but the obvious answers to this question are either: Revolt, Matrix(for instance, Element, etc.), Guilded, etc. I suppose rocket.chat and Slack could be considered as well.
