The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

You can also use it in curl already, and apparently through MesaLink API compatiblity layer you can replace OpenSSL with it elsewhere.

How to create small Docker images for Rust
Making HTTPS calls is interesting because it requires a library to interact with TLS, usually openssl. But in order to build the smallest Docker image possible, we need to statically link our program, and statically linking openssl is not that easy. That's why we will avoid openssl and use rustls instead.
What are some alternatives?
When comparing mesalink and rustls you can also consider the following projects:
rust-tls-api - TLS API for Rust, and API implementations over native-tls and openssl in separate crates
reqwest-impersonate - Impersonating the Chrome browser made easy
rustls-native-certs - Integration with OS certificate stores for rustls
Sunscreen - A compiler for fully homomorphic encryption and zero knowledge proofs
rustls - A modern TLS library in Rust
grin-vanity - A cli vanity address generator for Grin.
OpenSSL - TLS/SSL and crypto library
tabbyssl - Previously MesaLink, TabbySSL is an OpenSSL compatibility layer for the Rust TLS stack.
shadow-tls - A proxy to expose real tls handshake to the firewall
