meow VS god-mode

Using meow:https://github.com/meow-edit/meow I actually got keybindings in Emacs that are helix-like, so I use helix for certain projects and Emacs for others.

The muscle memory transfers well.

Thanks for the tip, meow looks interesting. I never got comfortable in evil-mode, but perhaps meow could be a gateway to trying emacs in anger.

You have to go further for ideal IMO.

Evil and evil-collection integrates pretty well, but Meow integrates perfectly and uses the action visible first approach.

I think I'd rather hope for meow over Evil. It's close to Evil but embraces more of emacs' default bindings for calling commands.

There's also Meow[1], which I currently use. You have to configure it first to suit your keyboard layout, but there are pre-built configs [2]

I was thinking about this a little more and Meow has something known as keypad mode that basically lets you call key combinations then return to Normal mode. It behaves a lot like god-mode. I just tested it out and if you install Meow you can call keypad-mode from insert and then automatically return to insert mode.

Another option to trigger functions are vim-inspired leader key sequences such as god mode [1] and the evil leader implementations in spacemacs and doomemacs, for example [2].

Reminds me of god-mode: https://github.com/emacsorphanage/god-mode. Although I use Evil, it still comes in handy on occasion when I need to type something without an Evil keybind. Alas, it’s been abandoned, though it still seems to work for me on the rare occasions I need it.

It seems strange to me to compare Evil, a modal editor, with the use of modifier keys. Maybe that is because I'm a big fan of god-mode though. For god-mode I do use a slightly modified mod-alist, which might be useful.

There's active development of god-mode still though[0].

Mentioned elsewhere here, I've found meow[1] to be really interesting/good. And it leverages some of what makes god-mode nice (from their list of key features: "Minimizes modifier usage (e.g. `SPC x f` for `C-x C-f`) inspired by god-mode")

God mode could be something you might like.

Have you seen god-mode isn't that relatively same just automated?
