material-shell VS taskwarrior-tui

I really want https://material-shell.com/ for MacOS

it was perfect for using a single monitor

kinda like a deterministic alt+tab, you set up the layout of "workspaces" and they're always in the same place

I keep getting annoyed at alt+tab because I accidentally clicked on another window and now the order is messed up

I'm confused. How does that work? Is it like a GNOME extension or something; similar to how Material Shell works?

I don't know too much about that. You can achieve a lot with gnome extensions. And if you'd like to build your own and see what's possible, check out the source code of Material Shell

But you might want to try out Gnome first, with one of the many tiling extensions, or perhaps Material Shell for a Tiling like WM experience

Has anyone used Material Shell? It looks like it will do the tiling for me.

Hi, I'm working on Ubuntu 22.04.1 with Gnome 42.5. I used to be able to install shell extensions just fine with the Chrome extension. However (I think since (un)installing the Material Shell Extension), I can't install any extension anymore, not via the Chrome extension, not via the terminal (`gnome-extensions install -f ...`). In the browser, the switch is available and clickable, but nothing simply happens. Via the terminal, no feedback at all is given. When going over the [source code](https://github.com/material-shell/material-shell) of the material shell, it seems that it tampers with some extensions and God knows what else... Via `dconf` I had to enable the allowance of extensions (`disable-user-extensions`), also something Material Shell probably did. I uninstalled Material Shell according to the docs, but of course, not everything is undone...

I use two different contexts. One is default, which only shows me the main tasks I want to be working on. In general, this is no more than 10 tasks and excludes things with priority:L or anything +BLOCKED. I have another context, backlog, which shows pretty much everything that default doesn't. Blocked, delayed, de-prioritized tasks. I also use a taskwarrior-tui which lets me switch contexts with a hotkey.

I've had great success with using TaskWarrior to manage my tasks. Open-source and terminal-based, though I do use a terminal UI for it, which makes it even more user-friendly.

If you need a simplistic application to strictly manage tasks that you need to complete, I would recommend TaskWarrior, as well as taskwarrior-tui. Since TaskWarrior is a terminal-based application, taskwarrior-tui provides a nice terminal interface to interact with it.

I use `taskwarrior` every day and greatly enjoy it. There's a number of other terminal TODO management solutions that I've dabbled with but `taskwarrior` is just so feature rich and can be adapted to suit your workflow quite easily.

There's also `timewarrior`, which complements `taskwarrior` pretty well.

I combined it with taskwarrior-tui, a TUI (terminal user interface) that makes it even easier to create and manage tasks, and I can never imagine using anything else.

I use Material-Shell and just have one of my workspaces dedicated to tasks/notes. So I have Joplin open for note taking, and (like you) a shell where I just have my task list open. I have been experimenting with taskwarrior-tui also.
