Request: Map APIs to tinker with? Something for projects that can rest on github pages all the time
Hi, If you want to use a map api and something you don't want to pay, I'd suggest you leaflet or maplibre with styling layer (I really don't know the term). Leaflet has leaflet-react for 3rd party react library and maplibre has a 3rd party wrapper as well. this. I've used leaflet on web and maplibre on react native and both of them did the work, which involves basic animations, controls and drawing on the map (maybe both of them might not have features I listed, but the ones I used for specific platforms had), but you should know that they don't have complex API's that google maps has.
What are some alternatives?
pg_tileserv - A very thin PostGIS-only tile server in Go. Takes in HTTP tile requests, executes SQL, returns MVT tiles.
terra-draw - A library for drawing on maps that supports Mapbox, MapLibre, Google Maps, OpenLayers and Leaflet out the box
mapbox-gl-js - Interactive, thoroughly customizable maps in the browser, powered by vector tiles and WebGL
Leaflet.NonTiledLayer - A leaflet layer for non-tiled overlays.
openstreetmap-carto - A general-purpose OpenStreetMap mapnik style, in CartoCSS
roataway-web - Roataway web site
tegola - Tegola is a Mapbox Vector Tile server written in Go
wind-layer - :flags: :rocket: wind-layer | a openlayers && maptalks && amap && bmap && leaflet && mapbox-gl && maplibre-gl extension like windy.com for weather visualization
maplibre-gl-js - MapLibre GL JS - Interactive vector tile maps in WebGL2
nextjs-protomap-demo - Small demo repo for setting up a fully self-hosted static map website with NextJS and Protomap.
leafmap - A Python package for interactive mapping and geospatial analysis with minimal coding in a Jupyter environment
railmap - View the world's Railroads and Railroad Crossings
