Recommendation on how to make diablo 4 run cooler on M1 Max?
You can make device cooler by manually turning on the fan and tinkering with the RPM of fan to make it run cooler when running games. Macboook by default does not turn on the Fans until its over 90 degree. You can use this free Fan control software. I have been using it and my mac runs cooler when gaming and such. https://crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control

Is it time for a new computer or are my issues fixable?
Knowing how one might reproduce an issue doesn’t mean the cause is failing hardware. Apple Diagnostics may be able to tell you more, and Macs Fan Control can tell you if the fans are in working order and you can make them spin faster if you want.

Would a refurbished 2017 MacBook Pro be any good for video editing today? (Premiere/DaVinci)
However if do have your heart set on the macbook make sure they have at least cleaned it out and repasted the CPU. It should take care of the overheating problem some what you can use like Mac's fan control to get a bit more cooling out of it https://crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control It's what I use on my 2012 mac book bro which is way older.

CPU/system fans stopped on wake
There is a new FakeSMC3 but I have not tried it yet as the old one works fine for my current BigSur install on old hardware. I may give it a whirl on my laptop which is slightly newer.

Monterey on Atermiter X79 + E5-2620v2 + AMD RX6600 | OpenCore 0.8.6
Hardware sensors: One thing to take into consideration are the hardware sensors, if you like to monitor stuff using apps like iStatica or iStat Menus. VirtualSMC seems to lack support for the sensors on this system. After looking for a solution I got to a fork of FakeSMC that has the perfect support for this hardware: FakeSMC3 from CloverHackyColor. I find it very stable and provides a lot more sensors to monitor temperatures. But I cannot guarantee its stability and performance since a lot of people on the community say VirtualSMC is superior. This just works for me, guys. Feel free to try what is best for you.
