guess-indent — Automatic indentation style detection plugin for neovim
I don't know the exact reason for this, but if I had to guess it probably comes down to the fact that in Neovim Lua is significantly faster than vimscript (with vim9 the performance gap narrowed, but afaik there is no intention to port vim9script to neovim), and that vim-sleuth heavily relies on Regex.

Are you sure it's not coc-highlight? Or is it both?

coc.vim adding color previews to css etc. even though I don't have a coc highlight extension installed.
If coc is to blame, it sounds like you have an extension like coc-highlight installed.
