Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Jupyter in the Emacs universe
Also wanted to note another option for python scripts, https://github.com/abo-abo/lpy (that uses lispy). Lispy seems to be actively maintained and lpy is less (abo-abo doesn't seem to be active anymore). There are a few drawbacks, specifically around async evaluation but it's a very interesting option, and with a little more maintenance of the package is even great.

Testing different Emacs distros easy way in Emacs 29/30
If you like Evil-based configuration, you can give MinEmacs a try. It is more of a personal configuration than an alternative to Doom/Spacemacs though!

Playing with layout (again)
That's good! For me, at first, when I was using Doom Emacs, adding third party packages was always a headache as Doom adds an extra complexity layer with the applied tweaks and advices. Now I'm using my own config framework on top of vanilla Emacs 30.0.50 (minemacs). I briefly retested NANO to see if I can use it with my config, but I was always unsatisfied with the result, I remember having problems with the mode-line even after applying the tweaks described in the repo.
