Are there any good tutorials of using the libZypp ABI?
I already studied the source of the YaST2 Packager (Ruby), the YaST PKG Bindings (C++) however this works providing bindings for Ruby written in C++, the official "documentation", the actual source of libzypp (C++), the source of zypper (C++) and how the Foreign Function Interface of Rust works ofc.

It should actually be libzypp that handles that, or specifically a plugin. There is a page in the docs on writing plugins but that is way over my head.^^ Hope you'll find a way to do what you are looking for, good luck!

Alternative download location for advanced users from NA
I did experience some weird behavior around that place as well, and concluded with https://github.com/openSUSE/libzypp/pull/306 , which I really hope should fix the problem.

File a feature request at https://github.com/openSUSE/libzypp/, you won't get far by posting on a user forum like reddit

Keeping a base kernel number with multiversion
The way the code is written (https://github.com/openSUSE/libzypp/blob/master/zypp/PurgeKernels.cc) I think you always need to specify the full kernel version, but not necessarily the release number.

Is download.opensuse.org down for anyone else?
If you mentioned caching solutions, I must add https://github.com/Firstyear/opensuse-proxy-cache, there are at least 2 mirrors currently running it (the only disadvantage is that you cannot browse files afaik, but zypper doesn't need it). mirror.firstyear.id.au, mirror-jp.firstyear.id.au . Recently a mirror container became available at https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/[email protected]/thread/WHKPZHRF6V6DYUH7RMVJT6DGJFCUIZTT/ , which should make mirror setup more straightforward.

While I haven't tried it myself, I've seen https://github.com/Firstyear/opensuse-proxy-cache being recommended before to reduce bandwidth usage.

Sanity check - opensuse_proxy_cache to cache tumbleweed snapshots on LAN?
But then I stumbled on opensuse_proxy_cache (https://github.com/Firstyear/opensuse-proxy-cache) which seems dead simple and serves the use case out of the box, at first glance. A good portion of the machines are 99% similar, so most of the RPMs on the first dup of a new snapshot should theoretically get cached, and served from the local cache when the other machines dup, assuming another snapshot isn't published beforehand.

Is zypper slow for you?
It's good we are looking at this because it's a very common long term complaint outside europe (I remember talking with many folks at SUSECON 2019 Nashville about it); but I suspect some of our zypper / libzypp / repo architectures contribute to the speed issue. Firstyear has documented that well: https://github.com/Firstyear/opensuse-proxy-cache and he's commented inside the zypper github issues as well with some good feedback from andrii-suse and others...
