There's also https://github.com/Stonyx/RSyncSnapshot which doesnt need all the pearl installation. I've created a project which is what I use at my costumers for the backup sollution (live backups - live LVM snapshot for rsync or dd) I've included a benchmark tool designed to find the best bs= with the real copy scenario...). My backups are 20x faster now then with other sollutions.
