konsave VS mackup

so I picked EOS, with KDE Plasma because I found something called Konsave and they said KDE Plasma is the most customized DE, so I'm sold.

It is smooth sailing until now, I suggest this to save and replicate your config.

I'm using Konsave to backup my Plasma config.

It's a bit of a mess - I'm kind of hoping that Plasma 6 will bring back some structure into this, but I'm not getting my hopes too high. In the meantime there are a few tools to make this easier, such as konsave (it comes preconfigured for Plasma).

You can copy files manually or use something like konsave

There is konsave which was recommended by one of KDE developers on video, though I did not test it.

I use konsave to backup my KDE settings so I don't need to recreate my panes and widgets when they're lost (what happens 3 or 4 times per week). But after restoring a backup I need to log out. Is there a way to force a reload of Plasma without having all my apps closed? Can I maybe kill and restart some specific process?

I have tried loading it into the iso using Konsave(https://github.com/Prayag2/konsave), But it didn't work. :(

I haven't found any system (Linux distro, Mac, or Windows) that seems to really reliably do major version OS updates. I think I'm migrating to the viewpoint that it's better to just concentrate on having scripts/exported configs etc. that allow me to set up a new machine super quickly. I am using mackup to sync application preferences between devices over Dropbox. Now if any application with synced preferences is started I will get a question if given application is allowed to access Dropbox files (because it tries to access its preferences). Examples below.

Yeah, I went through a similar process when I finally upgraded my MBP after 8 years on a 2013 MBP. In light of the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon, I decided to do some spring cleaning with a fresh install. I ended up curating my own setup/bootstrap scripts as well as using mackup to backup and sync my dotfiles and app configs.

I use Mackup which syncs a many app settings including Raycast to your choice of location.

I moved away from using a dotfiles repo a few years ago because I kept forgetting to add/commit files as I changed them.

Instead I use mackup[0] which automatically manages symlinks to your Dropbox/Drive/Share and has support for a huge amount of software by default. You can also manually add “extra” files you wish to track if you like.

Brew bundle will install fresh copies of your package list. If you have any configuration files that you want to reuse, you’d have to transfer those separately. This might help https://github.com/lra/mackup
