how to connect react pages with nodejs..?
You could also take a look at Jitar (https://jitar.dev). It allows you to connect react to node.js by just importing the server functions from the client. Jitar connects both ends automatically. I do want to mention that I'm one of the creators.

Daunting and fearing the open source world
Another source is mentor feedback, somebody who tells you he thinks you can do it, some projects seem more open to new contributors, search good first issue, if you will open an issue saying you are willing to commit to say 1-2h a week for a year i believe you will get help.
