After playing minecraft for 2 years on Xbox we have realized its crap compared to PC...so, JAVA OR BEDROCK?
There is also this project (https://github.com/jhead/phantom) that allows you to create a bridge inside your network such that it looks to your Xbox as if there were a game running on the home network but you can configure it to point anywhere - it will require running the software on a PC, it basically acts as a relay between your home network and whatever server you point it at.

Cross platform PC, PS4, and Switch
I found the Phantom distro for hosting locally on the Pi but it states not working with the Switch: https://github.com/jhead/phantom

I have a few questions regarding playing with friends on PS4...
The players at remote locations to the server would need to download jhead’s phantom software on GitHub and run it on a pc. This makes their local pc act as a mirror to the dedicated server and makes it look like the server is on the same network as the client, making it show up in the LAN / local games list.

Is it possible: To get Java on the Nintendo switch, and connect on a server / realm with a computer player.
Along with Geyser you may be able to use this: https://github.com/jhead/phantom

LAN Gyser server not showing on Xbox consoles [Help]
Hi, I am hosting a Minecraft Java Fabric server with Gyser and Floodgate installed to allow Bedrock players to play. The Java ports are forwarded to certain domains so people can join and this works great. I do not have permission from the network administrator to forward UDP ports so I cannot forward the bedrock ports. I am trying to expose the server to consoles and mobile devices using the 'open to LAN feature'. I discovered the 'phantom' project created by 'jhead' on github which pings devices on the network so they believe that the server is open to LAN. This works for mobile (MCPE) users and the server shows my 'friends' list under LAN worlds on my phone however on xbox consoles nothing shows. Any ideas?

A helper app to join a LAN dedicated server if you cannot see it in the Friends tab
Note for anyone who needs to run this on a different machine from the server: phantom should do the trick.

Self Hosting a modded server
As for the server, I went with paper for one main reason: I can't guarantee the kids have a computer or Java. So I run bungee, geyser/floodgate, and viaversion to make it easier to maintain the version between different clients of unsophisticated users. I even have one using Phantom to play on Xbox.

Does anybody here willingly choose to play Bedrock over Java?
There's also this software that proxies a server as a LAN game, which we used for a short time but it wasn't very good for my non-technical friend.

Advice on server/hosting options
Second option is Phantom which is a proxy server you run on a separate device, PC or Raspberry Pi. It basically tricks Minecraft on Xbox to see your server as being on the same home network. It feels more organic to use(as the server just shows up in the list of available server) but it does require the program to run on a computer, whether Windows or Linux, while you play.

You can run minecraft phantom available here. You run it from a PC that is on the same network as the console.

Any player is able to type in these glyphs in chat. Having a lot of these shown at a time can cause the game to lag badly
For all who are wondering how: Bedrock Unicode Glyphs [GitHub.com]

How do I make this for Bedrock Edition? I already know that you make it through a resource pack, just don’t actually know how to make it.
Galaxite does this by modifying the vanilla glyph files and adding their own icons in the resource pack. If you have a copy of the vanilla resource pack, you should see a folder called fonts. This is what contains all of those glyphs. glyph_E0.png and glyph_E1.png are used by minecraft for icons, and is the standard for using them on servers, but any of these files can be used. https://github.com/TwistedAsylumMC/bedrock-unicode-characters has a list of all the vanilla icons and how to use them

Colormatic splash text is rare?
Yup! Bold, Italic, and much much more!! I remember this was added in the early alpha phases of pocket edition and nobody knew about it. Still not many know about the emojis built in! A couple of years ago others discovered it too and they documented it here https://github.com/TwistedAsylumMC/bedrock-unicode-characters
