Transfer vertex color data from a point cloud (.ply) to a mesh
I took a point cloud file (.ply) format and imported it into Blender using this nifty add-on: https://github.com/TombstoneTumbleweedArt/import-ply-as-verts. This nifty add-on enables you to import a point cloud file that contain color data so I know that the vertices have color data.

How to have color on a point cloud .ply file for Blender?
If you use the custom PLY importer below (replace the original), the point cloud color will be stored as Custom Attribute that you can pass on into mesh geometry using Geometry Nodes. https://github.com/TombstoneTumbleweedArt/import-ply-as-verts/tree/916bbd32af17916ee7cd6c9a6256abc8f62b68a6
