Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

DSMCFoam on OpenFOAM
I would recommend using dsmcFoam+, which has many more capabilities than the one with the standard OpenFOAM (e.g. internal and electronic energy modes and chemical reactions). It also contains some tutorial cases. You can find it here: https://github.com/vincentcasseau/hyStrath The repository contains other applications as well, but the installation script allows to install only dsmcFoam+

How can I best store data in python for visualization of simulation
I suggest using vtk to store your data. It's a file format intended for these applications and makes it compatible with for example Paraview. For plotting 2D results I found a package called turbulucid very easy to work with (https://github.com/timofeymukha/turbulucid).
